Church potluck tomorrow and I need to bring a baked ziti and a pan of brownies. This double decker holds both. The bottom layer fits my 9x13" Pyrex with room to spare. The top expands to 7.1" tall – plenty for a 2" deep brownie pan. The black-flower pattern is subtle enough that my husband didn't complain. The insulation kept both dishes warm for the 20-minute drive. One trip from the car instead of two. Worth it.
In previous years I balanced foil-covered dishes on my lap or made two trips. This year I put stuffing in the bottom and green bean casserole in the top expanded layer. Both arrived still hot after an hour drive. The 600D Oxford exterior wiped clean when a bit of gravy spilled. The top zipper pocket held the serving spoons. The two handles are padded enough that they didn't cut into my hands. Host asked where I got it. Ordering another for next year.
I brought a cold pasta salad and a fruit platter in July heat. I put an ice pack in each layer. Three hours later at the BBQ, both dishes were still refrigerator-cold. The leakproof construction meant no melted ice water dripped on my car seats. The 15.8" x 10" base is stable – no tipping over in the back seat. The flower pattern is actually cute for summer parties. Great for warm weather potlucks.
I tried to fit my deep 4" ceramic casserole in the expanded top layer (max 7.1"). It fit height-wise but the lid wouldn't zip closed easily because the handles on the dish stuck out. For standard 2-3" deep baking dishes, no problem. For very deep dishes or dishes with tall handles, the bottom layer might work better. The quality is excellent and the insulation works great. Just know the limitations of the expandable top.
Bought this for a potluck in March. Since then I've used it for family dinners, church events, tailgates, and transporting holiday meals. The zippers still glide smoothly. The 600D Oxford fabric has no tears or fraying. The interior aluminum foil lining hasn't peeled or cracked. The black-flower pattern isn't faded. This thing is built to last. I've gotten my money's worth many times over. Best $30 I've spent on kitchen gear.
